By now we are well into the season for outdoor shoots. And why not, right? After all, our summer weather has been beautiful this year, despite Corona trying to ruin it all (*remember to socially distance at shoots!). Shooting outside has its kickers if you aren’t prepared though. Here are some ideas of what you can bring along to make sure your shoot goes smoothly.
- Arrive in light, loose clothing if you are going to have multiple wardrobe changes. To prevent wrinkling of my wardrobe I never wear what I am using on set on the way to the shoot.
- Bring a water bottle and snacks. Posing is a workout and the last thing you want to be during a 4 hour shoot is dehydrated. If you’re paranoid about bloating, drink your water with a straw.
- Pack sunscreen even if you don’t end up using it, as well as an umbrella that you can pop open for some shade. This will give you a little relief if the location you are shooting at will require you to be directly in the sun for long periods of time.
- Comfy walking shoes are a must. I cannot tell you how many times I have been supposed to shoot within one block, but ended up wandering around the city with a photographer in search of other locations. Pack walking shoes!
- Bring your setting spray and powder, and any other makeup that might need to be touched up. Don’t let sweat ruin your shots! (Hint: Bring extra deodorant, too!)
