“The most unique studio space in Denver…”

Hi all! This week I wanted to highlight my friends over at Zuni Studio Denver. If you haven’t already heard of this studio, you best be checking them out right now. The end of their season is August 31st and booking slots are limited! After the 31st you will need to contact them via email to book a slot.

I had the pleasure of shooting here at the very tail end of May, if I remember correctly. Right before they opened! I was so excited to shoot in an indoor pool (and a fancy one, at that) with Matt Archer (photographer) and Ashley Sirena (model).

Zuni Studio has both a pool and a hot tub to shoot in. It can be difficult to find pools for photo shoots around here, so that’s one of the reasons why this space is so special. They also have a changing area by the pool so that you don’t have to go too far for an outfit change. New to the space is an outdoor shower. I still have to check it out- such a cool addition.

I love that the studio is so clean. They are taking extra precautions for sanitation during the pandemic. Make sure to fill out the waiver online before your shoot.

Special thanks to Terri for answering all of my questions. Be sure to check out the website and get on the schedule!

Q & A with Terri:

How long has Zuni Studio been open now?
Our official opening day was June 1st, 2020- it has been now a little over 2 months.

What are the typical hours you are open for booking (during your normal season of course)?
During the normal season we have availability between 9am-5:45pm on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays- closed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

What’s the hourly rate for booking?
It is currently at $70/hour.

Zuni Studio is such a unique space! What’s the story behind it?
Due to its private location (location provided upon booking similar to Airbnb) we actually did not intend for the space to be a studio but it really just manifested into its own things and ultimately we wanted to share our special place. When the property was first purchased everything was in 1970's condition including the studio space and it has been a working progress ever since!

What kind of events can book the space?
Very soon, we are having private small group yoga sessions and goddess gatherings during the Fall 2020 season photoshoots will ONLY be via zunistudiodenver@gmail.com by appointment only. We may be offering night shoots in the future, stay tuned.

What’s your favorite part of owning a studio thus far?
My favorite part about owning the studio definitely has to be seeing all the creatives find new and fun ways to showcase the studio space! And of course meeting and building relationships with other creative professionals.

What are some of the challenges that come with having such a space? How much work is it to maintain the pool and hot tub?
One challenge has been communicating to people that we have a no nudity policy- we want to keep the place as professional as possible although we understand there is beauty in the art of nudity. We want to remain PG-13 for the time being. Another one would have to be staffing for the space has been a challenge which is the main factor to why we have limited hours of operation. As far as the maintenance of the pool and hot tub it is a daily routine and between session responsibility for us. We want to ensure that we are providing a clean and relaxed environment at all times.

What are your long term goals for the studio?
Our long term goal is to provide a creative space for people to use as an outlet for their creative visions. We hope that we have been an asset to the creative community and want to continue to serve in that capacity and hopefully in the future offer more availability.
