Fall Instagram Photography & Modeling Trends

Fall is right around the corner- seriously. Our Colorado leaves began changing at the very beginning of September. I saw yellow leaves around Denver as early as mid August. With the changing of the leaves come all of the fall photoshoots. We go from dancing in the sunflowers to playing in the Aspens just like that (-snaps fingers-). BOOM. Welcome, fall.

With that being said, your Instagram feed is about to be flooded with a lot of the same photos. They’ll be gorgeous (who doesn’t like leaves?)… but if you’re going to jump on the fall shoots, you’ll want to stand out. I’m here to tell you what the shoot trends for the fall are probably going to be and offer some tips for how you can stand out from the rest. Don’t get lost in the feed!

Fall Shoot Trends

1- Playing in the leaves, throwing leaves, sexy leaves (this will probably be me, LOL), high fashion in the leaves, implied with leaves, portraits close up in a pile of leaves…

2- Horror characters- regular and sexy versions…

3- Pumpkin patch… doing… well… everything imaginable…

4- Cornfields…

5- Outfits- Reds, oranges, yellows, blacks… say goodbye to neon for a hot minute (we still love you though, neon!)

6- Fall lifestyle (my favorite, honestly)…

How Can YOU Stand Out As A Model?

Shoot with quality photographers.
This is honestly what matters the most. Quality catches the eye. If you want to shoot something awesome but don’t have access to a quality photographer, do your research and hire someone who will do great work with you. Need a recommendation? Message me and I can point you in the right direction depending on what you want to shoot!

Hire a makeup artist.
Especially if you are wanting to do crazy Halloween makeup. The last thing you want is to butcher your makeup for what could have been a sweet concept. There are a ton of local makeup artists who can bring your vision to life. I’m already seeing them advertise their Halloween makeup work for the season. Put them to work! I’m sure any one of them would love to work with you on something fun.

Take time to plan your outfits and concepts.
It’s easy to spot a rushed concept. Give yourself a bit of time to really plan what it is you want to get out of the shoot. What’s the vibe you want to give off as a model in these photos? Find the perfect location. Give yourself adequate time to find the wardrobe you want and piece it together (especially if you need to order things online- the postal service is still really behind right now).

Try not to imitate other people’s work.
It’s great to use other people’s work for inspiration, but don’t copy exactly what they have done. It’s really easy to spot a photo that has been copied to a T. People sometimes get heated over their work being copied, too, and it probably wouldn’t be fun to get called out over social media. Imitation is flattery… to a point. Put your own spin on things!

Find locations that other people have not been shooting at.
But make sure that you’re allowed to be there. Scout the area(s) first and see if you need a permit. It is totally worth it to pay to rent the right space for your vision.

Be on point with your facial expressions and poses.
This is so, so important if you are dressing as a specific character! Study the facial expressions and movements. It will make so much of a difference in the images.

Happy fall, everyone! We have been waiting for this Halloween since last Halloween! Enjoy it and make dope art! Tag me in the comments if you would like me to take a peek at your creations!
